Leader:    The magi came from many places, following a star.

People:    We come to worship and the star sheds light on our lives.

Leader:    The magi brought gifts to offer the Child.

People:    We too bring gifts – ourselves, our hopes, our dreams.

Leader:    Shepherds and magi – the meek and the mighty – all were welcome in Bethlehem.

People:    We too come to Bethlehem and then return to our homes

                 rejoicing in what we found.

PRAYERS OF CONFESSION   (in unison)

Dear and glorious Lord, since ancient times, seekers after wisdom have sought you -- and found you.  By a marvelous star you led the mysterious kings of the East to your side, where they learned to love and know you. Help us know you deeply and personally, that we may finally quench the thirst to be loved that is deeper than life.  In common with all people, we long for a love richer and more lasting than it is within our power to give. Forgive us when we look to other loves for the fulfillment and understanding we need, unfairly demanding of them what only you can supply. By the light of your Word, lead us through the peaks and valleys of our lives, until at last we stand in the light of your presence. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

So bring him incense, gold and myrrh, come, Peasant, king, to own him, the King of Kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone him.  This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; haste, to bring him laude, the babe, the son of Mary.

   *PRAYER OF DEDICATION   (in unison)

Wise God, we bear our gifts to you as our homage for your presence in our lives. Take these gifts, make them be an instrument in the world for those in need. Remind us that your generosity to us far surpasses anything we might give to you - teach us to respond the best we can. With your blessing on these gifts here today, we thank you. Amen.
