    *CALL TO WORSHIP

L:   Come up to me on the mountain.

P:   A flame of fire burst from the bush, but the bush is not consumed.

L:   Come up to me on the mountain, and wait.

P:   We will turn aside and see this great sight; why does this bush not burn?

L:   Come up to me on the mountain, and I will show you the Way.

P:   We shall take off our shoes, for the place where we stand is holy ground.

L:   Behold, I have heard the crying of creation; I have seen her back groaning under her heavy burden.  Rise, my people, and have no fear.

All: We shall climb to God on the crown of the world, and the mountains and hills shall sing as we go.

UNISON PRAYER

O God of the mountains and the valleys, we, your people, look to your glory during the high moments of our lives.  We love the times of excitement that are a part of our faith and our life.  We dream of mountaintop experiences and seek to hold on to those moments.  Forgive us when we fail to come down from the mountains and live in the valleys of everyday life.  Help us to see you as the God of both mountaintops and valleys.  Keep us faithful to the vision that we might translate it into a reality for all the world to see for we pray in the name of Jesus.  Amen.

Today is Boy Scout Sunday.  Our church sponsors Troop 125 of the Boy Scout of America.  The troop meets each Monday evening throughout the year.  We are proud to sponosr and host the troop in our building.  Some of the leaders and scouts are here in uniform at our 11:00 a.m. worship service today.

The ACTS OF KINDNESS TREE is in Fellowship Hall.  You are  reminded to take a heart and write on it (no names included) an act of graciousness that you have seen or experienced.  Take a look at the tree often to see the various “kindnesses” listed.

With the beginning of Lent, the annual Men’s Lenten Breakfasts resume this Wednesday, February 13th at 7:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church.  Breakfast, singing and a meditation are included.  The breakfast ends by 7:50 a.m. so that you may get on to work.  The speaker will be the Reverend Will Markham of the Cadillac Revival Center.  All men and their guests are invited.

The United Methodist Women will have their General Meeting on Thursday, February 14 at 1:30 p.m.  The speaker will be Don Lipfert, Red Cross volunteer, who spent a week at Ground Zero and the plane crash site in New Jersey several weeks after September 11th.  All women of the church are invited.

At the Grand Traverse District Conference on February 2, Jack and Gloria Fountain were honored during the “Celebration of the Laity.”  This recognition is an annual part of our District Conference and an opportunity for local churches to say “Thank You” to members of their church for their hard work and service.  An article will appear in the March Newsletter which will share all the servant ministry they have offered to God through their work in our congregation.   Congratulations Jack and Gloria!

Our church Website has a brand new look – take a peek at www.umccadillac.org.  Our Webmaster, Dan Kinney, has updated the site.  Lots of good information and many links are there for your use.  You can even get you own e-mail address off the site.  Also, each week the Sunday bulletin is posted.  If you need to know about an event or a meeting time, you can check it out there.  Remember, the church office is trying to obtain your email address so that we can be more efficient is our communication with one another.
