“What Gift Can We Bring”   vs. 1-3

If you have a prayer joy or concern, please fill out a prayer card and hand it to an usher during the singing of the hymn.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Kingdom-building God, you want us to watch and to be prepared for the kingdom that is coming.  Yet, our attention wanders, from the unseen that seems so far off, to more immediate demands that besiege us.

We suffer from “preoccupational hazards,” all the daily stuff of life that consumes.  Family obligations, work responsibilities, meetings we attend, teams we join, classes we take, causes we support and more, often distract us from our watching.  In trying to meet the expectations of all the people around us, we forget that you, our holy God, have expectations of your own.  We are in this world for a purpose, and we have allowed our purpose to be dissipated and diluted by the cares of the world.

Forgive us, Merciful God, and restore us to active watching, and faithful preparation.   Amen.
