*CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:            As we come together today, O Lord, we are tossed to and fro on waves of fear and doubt.

People:             O Calmer of troubled water, let us hear again your reassuring words,“Take heart, it is I; have no fear.”

Leader:            As we come together today, O Lord, we are driven here and there by winds of ambition and pride.

People:             O Healer of troubled souls, let us hear again your reassuring words, ““Take heart, it is I; have no fear.”

All:      Come, Lord Jesus, and bless our worship with the gift of your presence that we might find peace for our anxious hearts and meaning for our troubled lives.

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Ever-living God, we confess that our faith, like Peter’s, falters and fails at all the worst times and that like him, we find ourselves sinking in life’s deep waters and stormy seas as a result of the timidity of our faith.  Forgive our weakness of heart and spirit, O God, and remind us that when all else fails, we shall still find ourselves in the grasp of the saving hand of Jesus, whose love and compassion never fail.  In Christ’s holy name we humbly pray.  Amen.

Methodist Men will be having their regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, in the Corbin Room.  Following their “lavish” potluck dinner, there will be special awards presented for some of our VBS “hot dog chefs,” a short business meeting, and a video on God’s awesome forces–“Winds, Tornadoes, and Thunderstorms.”  Ron Truax and Don Rennie are hosts and remind you that all men are welcome.

Come and tie a quilt with the women on Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. or work on craft projects for the Holiday Bazaar.  Come as you are able and stay as long as your schedule permits.

A number of events are being planned for the Anniversary of 9/11. Beginning with a youth focused service in the park at 8 am, moving to honoring fire, police, rescue, disaster & military (active & veterans) personnel at noon; then, a Service of Memory and Hope at 7:00 pm. at St. Ann Catholic Church.  The day and week will be full of opportunities for service in our area and beyond.

The School Supply Pantry has already been opened for three weeks giving new school supplies to needy children.  This year, we are especially in need of new, sturdy backpacks for children of all ages.  We can also use lined paper, drawing pads, construction paper, scissors, pens, crayons, watercolor markers, colored pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, rulers, dictionaries, and scientific calculators.  We have been helping approximately 100 children each year, so our needs are substantial.  Please leave any donations in the school supply box in the narthex.

Rally Sunday is September 8 at 9:30 a.m.  All Church Picnic begins at 12:30 with hot dogs furnished; bring a dish to share.
