THE PEOPLE OF GOD PRAYING

PRAYER HYMN                                                      #2087

“We Will Glorify”

If you have a prayer joy or concern, you are invited

to fill out a prayer card and hand it to the usher at this time

SILENT REFLECTION

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God, gracious and forbearing: We remember with sorrow how people hailed and welcomed your Son on the day we have come to call Palm Sunday, and how so many of the same people were there again, just a few days later, shouting "Crucify him!" We confess that we feel a guilty, uneasy kinship with these people. We, too, lack solid, well-thought-out principles against which to test the latest fads or siren calls. We, too, switch our votes in whatever direction self-interest seems to dictate, in order to stay popular or safe.  Remind us, O God, of the courage of Jesus, who set his face steadfastly toward Jerusalem, even though he knew the fate that awaited him there, For his sake, grant us renewal of your offer of mercy, unearned and undated. In his name we pray. Amen.

    *PRAYER OF CONSECRATION   (in unison)

Use what we have to share, God of all people, so more of your children may know the good news of Christ.  If we had a donkey, we would loan it.  If we had branches, we would wave them.  When we have extra garments, we would honor Christ by clothing our shivering sisters and brothers.  We do have much to give, and we cherish the joy of giving.  Bless these tokens of the fuller commitment they are meant to represent.  Amen.

African Palms

Using the Cross of Christ  to Help People Help Themselves

An Unbroken Circle of Love

The palm crosses which are being distributed this morning are made from the dried branches of the dwarf palm tree throughout the year in seven mud villages near Masasi in SE Tanzania.  The crosses are distributed through an outreach program of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Olney, Maryland.  In the 23 years of operation, the sale of these crosses has provided over one million dollars in grants toward human need in Africa.

Once again, you have the opportunity to place flowers on the chancel for Easter Sunday in honor or memory of a person or special occasion.  Several varieties of plants are being offered. Tulips and hyacinths have six bulbs per pot and lilies have a minimum of five blooms (average 6-7.)  Cost is only $5.75 per plant this year.
