Leader: O God, we meet again in this familiar place, this strange, familiar place,

People: Haunted by millions of your faithful who have worshiped you through the centuries,

Leader: Thankfully aware of other millions who are worshiping you today,

People: This very day, this very hour, from Dalian to Budapest, from Salekhard (Sal-a-har) to Port-au-Prince.

Leader: Help us today to celebrate the tie that binds us to fellow Christians through the ages and throughout this planet,

People: That our lives may be strengthened for God’s purposes,

our love empowered and our witness given wings,

All:      Through Jesus Christ who is the hope of the world.

October First Sunday Loose Plate Offering will be given to the Bishop’s Initiative on Children and Poverty coordinated by Bishop Ott.  Donations of staple food and paper products will be given to the King’s Storehouse Pantry at the First Baptist Church.  Thank you for your generosity.

Country Store Work Bee: Come on October 11 (Note date change) and/or October 18 from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. (You may come anytime during these hours) to Tonja Hinkston’s home for a Work Bee.  Items needed include quart/pint mason jars, ziploc sandwich bags, baby food jars, fabric, mason jar lids and LOTS of baskets.  A box will be in the Narthex. Thanks for your help and donations!!

We still have several people who would benefit from having a “Special Friend.”  This would be someone who would call and visit on a regular basis and generally take a special interest in one of our older members who is maybe a shut-in or has difficulty getting out and about.  If you would like to help with this program or need more information contact Parish Nurse Donna Freeland.

Your help is needed: The Seventh Day Adventist Community Center is in need of good quality children’s clothing and sturdy footwear.  Children’s and teen jeans are greatly needed.  If you and your family can share, please drop off your donations at the Center on East Division on Tuesdays from 9:00 to 1:00 p.m..  Love, INC refers many clients to this ministry since they give clothing to those in need at no charge.

Finance Secretary, Dan Kinney, has your quarterly financial statement available in Fellowship Hall.

Our Chancel Flowers this morning are presented by Ruth Peterson in honor of her family.

Worship Notes: Today is the beginning of 40 Days of Purpose and World Communion Sunday.  At the 11:00 worship service, the children and interpretive dancers will be setting the Lord’s table for worship.  The song “Sage of Lambrené” by Kurt Bestor is dedicated to Dr. Albert Schweitzer who was the “Sage” and who made his home for over 50 years on the continent of Africa.  Listen for both the traditional African music and Bach of this moving song.

40 Days of Purpose Prayer Focus: Launch of the Campaign

˜  Pray that the first message, “What on Earth Am I here For?” will launch life-changing spiritual journey.

˜  Pray for the small group/Sunday School groups & home hosts.

˜  Pray that each person’s life will be enriched through the small      group experience.

There is no power like that of prevailing prayer.

It turns ordinary mortals into persons of power.

It brings power.  It brings fire.  It brings life.  It brings God.
