“In Silence We Wait”   Arr. Lloyd Larson

PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND WORDS OF PROMISE

God of the Past, in the wilderness of Jordan you sent a messenger to prepare human hearts for the coming of the Christ.  We rejoice that throughout the centuries that message of hope has brought peace and joy to people.

God of the Present, even now you are among us.  Forgive us that often we have failed to discern your presence with us and have felt deserted and alone.  Make strong in our hearts the faith that enables us to live serenely and triumphantly.

God of the Future, you have promised that Christ’s reign is coming.  Teach us to live in expectation that what we are and do today may be anchored in the certainty of your tomorrow.  Amen.

*ADVENT DOXOLOGY                                              Tune: Old 100th

            Praise God, for prophets’ voice of old;

            Praise God, for angels’ message told;

            Praise God, for shepherds in the night

            With them we greet the heavenly light.  Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION   (In unison)

Searcher of hearts, you know our thoughts before they are spoken.  You refine our impure acts so they conform to your will.  May what we say reflect your purpose for creation and what we do be consistent with your intent.  Shape what we give so that the world may know your hope and peace and fashion us to fit your design.  Amen.
