UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND WORDS OF PROMISE

Lord, Giver of Bread, you have shared the bread and wine with all people.  You are the gracious host who attends to us all, welcoming and nourishing us.  We confess that is hard to follow your example; it is difficult to be both host and guest.  We are grudging hosts who refuse to pour ourselves out for the hungry. We calculate what the merriment will cost us and we await our guest’s quick departure.  We take for granted our host’s preparations and fail to express our thanks.  O God, forgive our sins against each other.  Forgive our sin again you, who meets us at every turn as the compassionate host and the uninvited guest.  Amen.

The School Supply Pantry is an important mission for our church.  Each year school supplies are given to over 100 children.  This year because of the generosity of the Welcome Club our shelves were well stocked when we opened on August 6.  Thirty-four back packs, 100 pencils, over 12 scientific calculators and a wide-variety of school supplies were given out the first day.  We will open again on August 13 and subsequent Wednesdays in the month of August.  If you would like to donate some supplies, please leave them at the Church Office or in the box in the narthex.  At this time we need large back packs, scientific calculators, pencil boxes, paperback dictionaries, primary writing tablets, colored construction paper, pencils, small pencil sharpeners, erasers, glue stick and folders.  Any questions, please call Barb Tatarchuk.  Thanks!

Our annual Summer Hymn Sing will be on Sunday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m with Dr. Glenn Verbrugge on the organ and Dr. Saundra Blanchard playing the piano with Randy Myers leading lots of great singing.  A time of refreshment will follow.  You are invited to share a dessert for our refreshment table.  Plan to attend and invite your friends, family and neighbors to join you.

Godstock 2003  The Marion United Methodist Church is hosting an area-wide youth outreach concert called Godstock 2003.  The concert features the band “Daniel’s Window” and guest speaker Terry Prisk, a well-known speaker/minister.  This event is being held on August 23, rain or shine, at the Marion Fairgrounds.  Admission is $5.00.  The grounds open at 4:00 pm; the concert begins at 6:00 pm.   If you would like to attend, please let your youth group leaders know.  Rides can be arranged for those who are interested.

Jean Stump asks if anyone has any DILL to donate.  She is making pickles for the Annual Church Bazaar.  If you have some to donate, please call Jean Stump at 775-1691.

Today’s Special Missions Envelope is designated for the LeVeque School Security Wall Building Project in Haiti.  By contributing to the building of the wall, our congregation will be helping all of the students by preserving the school and the work that will be done to improve it.  Parents of many of the children are now hesitant to allow their children to attend schools without security walls.  This project is a special missions endeavor of the Boyne City United Methodist Church.
