UNISON PRAYER

Good Shepherd, we meet in your name, confident that we are known and loved by you.  Here we draw close to one another and to expecting to be empowered by fresh insights to live as your people.  We want to care for one another in life-giving ways.  We seek to reach out to those who deny you or suspect us.  Help us to grow in love that is genuine in its caring.  We embrace the wholeness you offer and dare to risk acceptance of a healing role for ourselves and this faith community.  Equip us for service as we scatter to serve you  Amen.

Worship Notes

The Interpretive Dance is being performed to John Rutter’s “The Lord is My Shepherd.”  It is a haunting, flowing melody which vividly portrays our Shepherding God.  We are grateful to Laurie Kinney and Jackie Soltman for the beautiful interpretation of this marvelous piece based on Psalm 23.

The Chancel Choir’s anthem is Brother James’ Air.  “Brother James is the familiar name by which many remember James Leith Macbeth Bain, who was born in Scotland towards the middle of the last century and passed away in 1925.  Like St. Francis, he combined the spiritual genius of the Mystic with the irresistible charm and trust of the child who loves all men and all creatures.  This Air is perhaps the most beautiful of many that came to him spontaneously, and it has, in its simplicity, something of that rare quality of appeal that Maurice Baring describes thus: `It was a wonderful tune—a tune that opened its arms’.” S.F.P., July 1932

We wish each women worshiping this morning a very Happy Mother’s Day.  A small but sweet treat is a gift from the Worship and Music Committee with gratefulness for the many ways you have nurtured the lives of so many
