THE GATHERING TO WORSHIP

PRELUDE

BRINGING IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST

WELCOME AND PARISH NOTES

*CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:        We enter into this sacred space and look around

for a trace of the Holy, hopeful of a divine meeting,

yet cautious, too, for God's call can be surprising.

People: We bring world weariness and hidden hungers,

yet music soothes our fractured spirits and

the community prays with us to a deeper truth.

Leader:                   Into this sacred moment we enter.

People: The Holy One is here. Alleluia!

Leader:                     God is waiting for us. Alleluia!

THE PEOPLE OF GOD PRAYING

PRAYER HYMN                                                                             #2197

“Lord of All Hopefulness”

If you have a prayer joy or concern to be shared, please fill out a prayer card and hand it to an usher during the Prayer Hymn.

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Mighty God, we confess that too often we have neglected to pray and have forgotten to give thanks.  Many activities have become more important to us than gathering for worship.  Our busyness crowds out times of prayer and study.  We shake our heads at the evil around us in this world but do little to witness to a better way.  Turn us around, O God, for only you can meet our need.  Amen.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE

PRAYER OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER                         #895

THE GIVING, READING AND PROCLAIMING OF THE WORD

PRESENTING OUR THIRD GRADE STUDENT’S BIBLES

PASTOR, TEACHERS AND TEACHERS TO THE STUDENTS:

Receive the Word of God.  Learn its stories and study its words.

Its stories belong to us all and these words speak to us all.  They tell us who we are, that we belong to one another for we are the people of God.

PASTOR:  Will you receive this Bible with thankfulness and promise to read and study the Bible together?

CHILDREN:  Yes!

CONGREGATION: We rejoice in this step in your faith journey with God.  We pray God will guide you, your family and us as you use this Holy Bible in your home, in your Church School classes and in our worship.  We will learn together and grow in our love for God’s Word.

Wesley Fellowship will meet in the Corbin Room for their monthly potluck dinner and program this Thursday, October 2nd at 6:00 p.m.  A speaker from OASIS will present the program telling us about the services and help they give.  Bring a dish to pass and your table service.  Everyone is welcome.

We still have several people who would benefit from having a “Special Friend.”  This would be someone who would call and visit on a regular basis and generally take a special interest in one of our older members who is maybe a shut-in or has difficulty getting out and about.  If you would like to help with this program or need more information contact Parish Nurse Donna Freeland.

Your help is needed: The Seventh Day Adventist Community Center is in need of good quality children’s clothing and sturdy footwear.  Children’s and teen jeans are greatly needed.  If you and your family can share, please drop off your donations at the Center on East Division on Tuesdays from 9:00 to 1:00 p.m..  Love, INC refers many clients to this ministry since they five clothing to those in need at no charge.

40 Days of Purpose Prayer Focus

READING OF THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE BOOK

˜                 Pray for the distribution of The Purpose Driven Life, that the book will reach each person who God intended it to reach.

˜                 Pray for each person’s commitment to read The Purpose Driven Life daily for 40 days.

˜                 Pray that the reading of The Purpose Driven Life will be a grace-filled turning point in the spiritual growth of each person as the reader reflects on God’s purposes for their lives and acts on what the Holy Spirit has revealed to them.

In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.              Psalm 5:3
