BRINGING IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST
WELCOME AND PARISH NOTES
*CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud
of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so
closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfector of our faith.
People: Let us take up the race of life with joy!
With Christ, we will not
grow weary or lose heart!
Leader: Come, let us worship God.

PRAYER HYMN #2171
“Make
Me a Channel of Your Peace”
UNISON PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ, you taught your disciples that those
who seek peace are sons and daughters of God and those who make peace are
blessed by God. We cry to you for mercy
on the tragedy and violence of our world; and we pray that out of the present
conflict may come a true resolve to create a new order of justice for all
people, in which the poor are fed, the oppressed freed and the arrogance of the
powerful made subject to your gentle and just rule. Amen.

The United Methodist Men will
meet on Thursday, August 26 at 6:00 p.m. for their Potluck and Program. The Civilian Conservation Corp was a
short-term conservation program created during the Depression; thousands of men
were trained and put to work planting trees, built firebreaks, etc. Pete Buehler who is a solid historian of
many events in the area will talk about the many camps and activities. Bring your son or daughter, a dish to pass,
your own table service and a friend.
Sherm Martin and Harold Gekeler are the hosts.
The Cadillac Christian Reformed
Church is hosting a Financial Peace University Course this fall. It is biblically based and presented in a
small group setting by author/radio host Dave Ramsey. An informational orientation will be held on
Sunday, August 22 at 12:15 pm or Tuesday August 31 at 7:00 pm. Questions, call 775-5291.
On Thursday, August 26
from 6:00 - 7:30 pm the Wexford-Missaukee County FIA will host a training here
on how to use CPR on children. Church
members and friends are welcome to attend.
Please notify the church office (775-5362) if you are interested.

Our Chancel Flowers
this morning are presented in celebration of the birthday of Chuck Crance.
Today we are honoring persons
who have belonged to this congregation and the church of Jesus Christ for more
than 50 years. Five persons have
belonged to this congregation for more than 50 years, they include Ona
Greenman, Ruth and Roger Johnson, Tom Huckle and Russell Wiles.
In addition, we know
there are many who are members of this congregation who have been confirmed
members of the Church both here and
other places for 50 or more continuous years and some are even lifelong
“Methodists,”. We are recognizing those
persons with a Certificate of Recognition.
A Special Coffee Hour will be hosted following the 10:00 a.m. worship
for the honorees.
Next Sunday, the youth and their leaders who were in
mission through the Work Mission Camp will be sharing in word, song and pictures
their work in Poplar Bluff, MO. Be on
hand to support and encourage them.
Stella Van Dorn continues to be at Kent
Community Long-Term Acute care. She
really appreciates your cards -- Spectrum Health - Kent Community Campus·750
Fuller NE·Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
Two Small Prayer Groups meet each week: Tuesday at 7:15 am and noon Thursdays. Join as your schedule allows. See Bedonna Davis or Debbie Ostema with
questions or prayer requests.
Your grocery
receipts from Carter’s Food Stores in Cadillac or Lake City may still be
turned in at the church to obtain funds used for projects by the United
Methodist Women. A box for them is
located in Fellowship Hall.
Please note the church
has hearing assistance devices for use during worship. These can be used by persons with or without
hearing aids. Also available are LARGE
PRINT HYMNALS and LARGE PRINT BULLETINS.
Check out our church
Website – take a peek at www.umccadillac.org. Lots of good
information and many links. You can get
your own e-mail address off the site.
The Sunday bulletin is also posted.
We so appreciate your
generous donations of food for funeral luncheons or other functions, however,
we find that there are many extra serving dishes and pans left in the
church kitchen. Please check in the
kitchen for yours. Thank you!
By Faith . . .
Hebrews
11:1-3, 8-16
1. Are there memorable times in your own Christian journey where you have had to take risky steps on the basis of faith when your doubts were strong and you were uncertain of the outcomes? How does that shed light on the what it means to put your faith in God?
2. Abraham and Sarah were called to an unknown country.
3. Do you feel you are on uncharted faith-ground sometimes?
4. Is the Church sure all the time about directions? Who helps you with certainty and responsibility in these unmapped areas of faith?
5. Is there anything new you sense God is calling you to do “by faith” at this point in your journey?
