     *CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:   Lord, your Spirit hovered on the waters as you made the earth.

People:   Your Spirit breathed life into human beings.

Leader:   The Spirit inspired prophets to speak out against injustice;

People:   It sang praises and laments with the psalmist.

Leader:   When Jesus was baptized, we knew him through the descent of the Spirit.

People:   When flames danced among the disciples, the church came into being.

Leader:   Your Spirit guided the journeys of Peter and Paul;

People:   It moves among us today, molding us into one body out of many.

Leader:   Let us praise the work of the Holy Spirit!

UNISON PRAYER

Living God, your Spirit flamed in your church at its founding; spark among us today.  Even as the bush that Moses gazed upon burned and was not consumed, burn in our hearts.  Make us your fuel.  Use us for your work. Unite us in the bonds of community, that we may be the church today for others, and not only for ourselves.  May the communion we know in you inspire us to be as faithful as the saints of the early church. In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
