LITANY PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Leader: Jesus, you
came when we were least expecting you, and
you interfered: "Come, follow me," you said.
People: We thank
you, Lord, for interfering in our private lives.
Leader: You never
promised us a comfortable life, or success, status, or prosperity. "Leave
behind your old way of life. Seek first the kingdom of God," you said.
People: We thank
you, Lord, for not promising us empty rewards.
Leader: You invited
us to walk alongside you and learn from you.
You
gave us hands and lips and hearts to reach out to
others all along the way.
People: We thank
you, Lord, for the essential gifts.
Leader: But just
when we think we have got it; just when we think we are doing all the right
things, the Holy Spirit makes us restless, prodding us to change.
People: So we thank
you, Lord, for coming to us again and again,
to show us your love for us and for all people. Amen.

The United Methodist Board of
Global Ministries is recruiting young adults for its Mission Intern and US-2
programs in 2005. Application
deadline for both programs is February 1. The age range is
20 to 30 years old.
For more than 50 years, the US 2
Program has offered young adults the opportunity to serve in mission in the
United States. US 2 missionaries live out their faith while doing ministries
that focus on social justice and work with people in communities pushed to the
margins. A two-year commitment is
required for the program. The mission
intern program offers young adults the opportunity to serve in an overseas
assignment and an assignment in their home country for a total of three
years. Such assignments deal with issues
of conflict resolution, community development, education and youth development.
Both programs emphasize leadership development and focus on spirituality as it
relates to social justice in today's society.
Young adults live with and learn from communities that struggle with
injustice.
More information is available at http://gbgm-umc.org/who_we_are/mp,
the Board's mission personnel Website. Applications are available online or by
contacting the Young Adult Program Office at (212) 870 3660 or sending an
e-mail MIRYAP1"at"gbgm-umc.org.

The Grand Traverse
District of the UMC has asked that January 18 through 25 be designated for Prayers
for Peace. Please set aside a few
minutes each day to pray for peace throughout the world. You are welcome to join either the Daybreak
prayer group, Tuesday at 7:15 a.m. or the Thursday noon group. Both meet in the Wesley Room, if you wish to
join a community prayer service.
The Senior High
Famine will begin this Friday, January 21 and end on Saturday, January
22. Half of the money raised will go to
Love, INC. and the other half to UMCOR for relief work in South Asia. They will have a table in the Fellowship
Hall, today following worship. Please
stop by if you would like to sponsor our youth or if you have any questions
about this important mission project.
Get out your “mumus”, grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts! Take a Polynesian dinner cruise with the Senior
High Youth Group during the Annual Gourmet Dinner. Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 26
and join us for an evening of good food and fun.
Interested in
ringing?? Our Bell Choir is looking
for another ringer or two. Reading music is NOT essential. Bell Choir practice is at 9:30 a.m. today
in the choir room. Come along and
give it a try.
January 23 & 30
Bulletins
A workshop entitled “Helping
Those Who Grieve” is planned for Monday, January 31 from 7 until 9 p.m. at
the Lake City Christian Reformed Church at 1657 S. Morey Road. There is no admission cost. The presenters are a
husband and wife team who have both experienced the loss of a
spouse. A flyer and background
information on the presenters in posted in Fellowship Hall.
Financial commitments
for 2005 are still being received.
Commitment cards are available in the pew pockets or on the table in the
narthex. We are appreciative of those
who have who participated in our “Give Until It Heals” campaign. Please prayerfully consider your financial
commitment toward the mission and ministry of our church. Thank you!!
Please note the church
has hearing assistance devices, LARGE PRINT HYMNALS and BULLETINS for
use during worship.
If you are “flying” to a warmer
climate this winter, please call the church office at 775-5362. Mail can be forwarded or held for you. Your notice helps us to keep expenses for
returned mail to a minimum.
Check out our church
Website – take a peek at www.umccadillac.org. Lots of good information
and many links. You can get your
own e-mail address off the site. The
Sunday bulletin is also posted.
We so appreciate your generous
donations of food for funeral luncheons or other functions, however, we often
find that there are many extra serving dishes and pans left in the
church kitchen. Please check in the
kitchen for yours. Thank you!
If your church group is
planing to meet and has special set-up needs, please
communicate that to custodian, Dee Piltz, by placing
the request in her church office mail box.
Plan to notify Dee well enough in advance so she can schedule a set up
time. Thank you.
Two-On-the-Town
Several members of the church have
commented recently that they have Two-on-the-Town cards and would like to
gather some people to share an evening meal or lunch together from time to
time. This is a group that would
encompass couples and singles.
The 2005 Two-on-the-Town cards are
available for purchase in Cadillac at Meijer, Glen’s Market, R.J. Grant,
The new cards begin in January of
2005. This group (or maybe even two
groups) could do lunch and/or dinners depending on the needs of those who want
to share this experience. We will gather
the interested people in a couple of weeks to set a time for our first outing.
If you would be interested in being part
of a group, please indicate below your name, phone and preferences. Questions, please contact Judy Coffey at
775-5362, speak
to her directly or email her at jcoffeyumc"at"yahoo.com

Book Club to Begin
Would you like to share in a Book
Club?? One is being started in the near
future. The intent is to read the same
book and then gather to have some discussion around it and for a time of
refreshment. This is not meant to be a “study”
but a time of discussion around a book of a spiritual nature.
We would meet every other month in order
to give time for people to read the chosen book. Monday evenings are the most open
presently. Interested? Sign-up below.
Contact Judy with additional questions at 775-5362. A meeting will be scheduled in the next
couple of weeks to select our first book and set a date to meet.
