WELCOME AND PARISH NOTES
*CALL TO WORSHIP
One: Great is our Lord and abundant in power;
God’s understanding is beyond
measure.
The Lord lifts up the downtrodden
and casts the wicked to the ground.
All: God, if you are so powerful and so good, why is there evil in
our world.
One: Remember Jesus’ parable of the weeds and the wheat. God leaves
the weeds to keep from destroying the wheat;
but only until the time for harvest.
At that time the weeds will be
burned, but the wheat will be gathered into God’s barn.
All: God, teach us patience.
Teach us to trust in your ways,
and let our live proclaim your praise
always.

THE
PEOPLE OF GOD PRAYING
If you have a prayer joy or concern
you would like shared during the Prayer of the People, please hand it to an
usher during the Prayer Hymn.
PRAYER HYMN #405
“Seek
Ye First ”
UNISON PRAYER
God of Wholeness,
we thank you for the time you give each of us
to grow,
and for your patience with those who behave
like weeds.
But we are impatient with those who
crowd, push and shove.
Those who prosper at others’
expense
wear away our ability to forgive and to love.
We are weary with weedy people,
and are sick with trying to live among
them. Heal our weariness and revive our
souls.
Cleanse the
weediness that grows in our own spirits,
and restore our strength to be Christ-like
in a world overgrown with weeds. Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION (in unison)
God of Salvation, we seek to be
children of your heavenly kingdom. But
our self-deceiving ways cause us to believe that we will be more generous
givers once we have satisfied our own personal, material desires. Change our thinking. Help us to be faithful disciples who
recognize that everything we have in life is a gift from you. Inspire us as we share our resources as a
response to your unconditional love.
Amen.
