WELCOME AND PARISH NOTES

*CALL TO WORSHIP

One:    Great is our Lord and abundant in power;

God’s understanding is beyond measure.

The Lord lifts up the downtrodden and casts the wicked to the ground.

All:       God, if you are so powerful and so good, why is there evil in our world.

One:    Remember Jesus’ parable of the weeds and the wheat. God leaves the weeds to keep from destroying the wheat;

but only until the time for harvest.

At that time the weeds will be burned, but the wheat will be gathered into God’s barn.

All:       God, teach us patience.

Teach us to trust in your ways,

and let our live proclaim your praise always.

            “Seek Ye First ”

UNISON PRAYER

God of Wholeness,

    we thank you for the time you give each of us to grow,

    and for your patience with those who behave like weeds.

But we are impatient with those who crowd, push and shove.

Those who prosper at others’ expense

     wear away our ability to forgive and to love.

We are weary with weedy people,

     and are sick with trying to live among them.  Heal our weariness and revive our souls.

     Cleanse  the weediness that grows in our own spirits,

    and restore our strength to be Christ-like

     in a world overgrown with weeds.  Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION (in unison)

God of Salvation, we seek to be children of your heavenly kingdom.  But our self-deceiving ways cause us to believe that we will be more generous givers once we have satisfied our own personal, material desires.  Change our thinking.  Help us to be faithful disciples who recognize that everything we have in life is a gift from you.  Inspire us as we share our resources as a response to your unconditional love.  Amen.

Like to camp & hike?  Adults needed to take youth in foster care and/or juvenile justice system on short camping trip.  Dept. of Human Services (formerly FIA) with Love INC’s help is looking for a few volunteers who would be willing to take a small group of 3 or 4 youth on a weekend camping experience.  All supplies and associated costs would be covered by DHS.  Lead volunteer should have first aid/CPR training as well as camping/hiking experience and the desire to work with youth.  If you are at all interested in learning more, contact Bedonna Davis at the DHS office at 779-4559.  You could make a tremendous contribution to the life of a child!
