            THE GATHERING TO WORSHIP

PRELUDE

BRINGING IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST

WELCOME AND PARISH NOTES

*CALL TO WORSHIP

One:    The saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

All:       And also with you

One:    We have come here, not because we have all the answers but because Christ Jesus has made us scholars in his school.

All:       We have come, not because we are better than others but because we know that God does not reject sinners.

One:    We have come, not because our lives always run smoothly but because by faith we walk together toward a promised land.

All:       We are here to worship a God who never wearies and to praise a Savior who is always optimistic.

PRAYER HYMN                                                                               #2108

“O How He Loves You and Me”

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God, who gives life and renews it, who sustains life and pushes it to great heights, take from us the Nicodemus-confusion that bridles our understanding.  Open our ears to sounds that cannot be heard, our eyes to things beyond sight, our hearts to dreams as yet unrealized.  In so doing, enmesh us in your immutable love that loves beyond comprehension, that accepts beyond all doubt, and that bestows upon us an unbelievable source of power.  Forgive us, challenge us and empower us so may we love as you have loved the world.  Amen.

HYMN OF PROMISE                                                                         #389

The Membership Committee is looking for volunteers to help deliver sermon tapes to our shut-in members and friends.  We currently deliver 11 tapes each week.  A member of the Committee will be available in the Fellowship Hall, following worship to answer your questions about this rewarding ministry.  Perhaps you would even like to deliver a tape today!
