It Takes Fire
It took a miraculous fire to get my
attention. No loss of life. No burned out homes. No crowds to gawk and gaze. It was a private fire meant only for me.
"Come.""Here
I am.""Not too close. Remove
your shoes. This place is holy."
God puts
holy fire into our mouths to speak truth to power.
How long will bullies frighten
children?
How long will
"higher-ups" oppress the rank and file?
How long will drug dealers hook
innocents?
How long will companies lose
workers' pensions?
How long will people die in
senseless conflict?
As long as fire in holy places goes unnoticed¼and
cool smoke rises where Christian passion once burned.

PRAYER HYMN #2272
“Holy
Ground”
UNISON PRAYER
God, sometimes it is difficult for
us to know holy ground, even when we are standing on it.
We long for a burning bush,
spectacular and unambiguous.
Let the fire of your Spirit blaze in
our hearts instead.
We yearn
for the sound of your voice, clear and unmistakable.
Let your
voice ring clear through the words we say and the utterings of our hearts.
We want to know who you are.
Let
the mystery of your holy name, “I am who I am,” speak into the deepest
reaches of our hearts.
We stand on holy ground, for we
stand in your presence.
Thank you, Gracious God. Amen.

Renovations Have Begun
The new Fellowship Hall and front
entrance flooring has been laid this past week. Please contact the church office (776-5362)
if you need to schedule ANY event or use space in the church in the next
several weeks, other than regular Committee meetings. We need to coordinate the available space. Some of the classrooms are being used for
temporary storage as the new flooring is being laid– so space is limited for
now.
The last Highway Clean-up of
the season will be held on Saturday, September 17 beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the
church parking lot. Many hands make for
light work; mark your calendar and come along to help - anyone 12 or older is
welcome.
There will be a brief UMW meeting
following the worship services on September 11 to discuss the Holiday Bazaar. Please plan on attending as your help is
needed!
The United Methodist Women
are requesting that you do not bring craft materials, fabric
and/or Attic Treasures or Bazaar items to the church, please, unless you have
spoken to Jean Stump, Carol Jones or Kay Hinkston. We are currently overstocked on fabric
& are out of storage space for other items. Thanks for your help!
The Wesley Fellowship will
meet in the Corbin Room on Thursday, September 1st at 6:00 pm where
a promotional video of our great town of Cadillac will be viewed. Hosts are Dee & Wayne Williams and
Dorothy & Tim Dean.
If you have good, useable jeans
your child has outgrown, the Community Service Center at Cadillac Seventh-Day
Adventist Church, 801 East Division, will gladly accept your donations on
Tuesdays from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Many
families go there to get free clothing for school and jeans are always in
demand. Your donation of jeans will help
outfit a local child for school. If you
have any questions, Penny Sluiter can be reached at the Center on Tuesdays at
775-9331.
Love, INC. needs “A few good men or
women”. The Love Inc. office is
experiencing an increasing number of calls, and is in need of additional office
volunteers. If you can donate half or an
entire day per week to this very rewarding ministry, please call Executive
Director, Diane Wood at 779-1888 for more information. Volunteers are needed to act as either phone
triage or telephone intake workers.
Being here, you will quickly learn about the enormous and varied needs
of people throughout our area, and you will feel pride in seeing how Christians
respond when called upon to help.

The Chancel Flowers on the
Lord’s Table this morning are given in honor of Don and Marie Rennie’s 52nd wedding
anniversary.
The Chancel Choir will
resume rehearsing Wednesday, August 31 in the sanctuary. Our goal is to lead the congregation in
worship, praise God and sing a variety of music; we sing mostly SATB
music. No auditions are required; only a
desire to offer praise to God.
Questions, contact Chancel Choir Director, Walt Stump. Come on along!!
Church Photo Directory: There are still a few appointments
