Jeremiah
33:14-16
*ENTRY INTO CELEBRATION
One: Advent is ...
All: A pilgrimage of the soul,
One: A child's delight,
All: A journey to our own
waits to be born.
One: Advent is ...
All: Responding to a deep yearning,
One: Going on a quest,
All: Following a star to a place of wonder and joy.
One: Advent is ...
All: Bright lights and Christmas trees,
One: Watching and anticipating,
All: Waiting for a baby's cry, the angels'
song and the whole world rejoicing.
One: Come, let us begin our Advent journey.

PRAYER HYMN #204
“Emmanuel, Emmanuel” Sing Twice
UNISON PRAYER OF
CONFESSION
Holy God, we stand with empty hands, foolishly
believing we
could purchase or borrow
what was needed at the last minute.
We are unprepared
to light the way or to enter into the holy feast. We confess that we have
depended on others to do our thinking for us, that we have counted on others to
carry our obligations. We duck responsibility, avoid a calling, hide from a
beckoning God. And we hope someone else walks the lonesome road for us. Wise Friend, strong Companion, place in us a
watchful spirit and a ready heart so we may live fully and be our truest
selves. Amen.

God of promise, You
who cause the branch of hope to bud and flower; we offer you the fruit of our
labor and the sacrifice of our hearts.

and our gifts as signs of what deliverance and hope can mean, we pray in Jesus’
name. Amen.
