UNISON PRAYER

Wonderful and merciful God, we come to you this day with open minds and grateful hearts.  You called us to be your people and to share with others the richness of your love.  We are especially thankful for those you have called to be your servants in our church family - bless singers and pray-ers, workers and teachers and servers of so many kinds - that all worship and ministry might be to your greater glory.  Use them and us all as instruments of your grace that the world may hear and experience your love and care.  Help us to understand the gifts in each of us, so we may also be faithful to your call.  Amen.

The Christian Education Committee is still looking for some additional enthusiastic persons willing to teach Sunday School.  The current need is “co-teachers” for the classes. Please call Andrea Hillard or Pastor Ostema (775-5362), if interested.

You still have opportunity to share in the September Loose Plate Offering which will go to our congregation’s Head Start Reading Program.  Our church buys books suitable for preschool children and readers representing our congregation read to the children on their birthdays at the two Head Start sites in Cadillac.  The children take the book home as our gift.  This is a great outreach of our church; we are sharing the love of Christ and promoting a love of reading.  You may designate Head Start Reading either on your own offering envelope or a pew envelope.

The Friendship Bible Class, a Bible study for developmentally disabled youth and adults, is in need of teachers.  The class meets on Monday nights starting September 18. For more information, please call Barb George.

Susannah Wesley Circle will meet at the home of Char Partlo Thursday, September 21 at 9:00 a.m. for breakfast.  Please R.S.V.P. to Char if you planned to attend.

The School Supply Pantry is still open; we have served nearly 150 children so far.  Backpacks - especially larger ones are still needed.  You may leave your donations in the box in the narthex.

Love, INC’s Durable Medical Goods Ministry at Church of Discovery is in need of extra large wheelchairs and shower chairs.  If you have either of these items you would like to donate, please call Love, INC at 779-1888.

This year’s Annual Church Conference will be held on Sunday, September 24 at 3:00 p.m.  Our District Superintendent, Rev. Bob Mayo, will be here to preside. At the Conference, reports are received and church leadership is elected.  Plan to attend.

The Sleep In The Park event will be on Saturday, September 30.  Youths wishing to participate can raise funds after each church service on September 17 and September 24.  Our focus is to raise awareness in our youth of the plight of the homeless and to raise funds for Wexford/Osceola Love INC.  The monies raised will be split 50% for local programs & 50% for Dr. Glenn Verbrugge as he goes to work at the NKST Orphanage in Mkar, Nigeria in January.
