COLLECT   (In unison)

Good Teacher, whose purposes can be trusted and from whom we learn to distinguish right from wrong, take the logs out of our eyes so we may see clearly the work you would have us do. Remove the plugs from our ears and open our hearts so we may discern your directions.  Help us to be faithful disciples so that your work may prosper among us and through us.  Fill our lives with the joy and peace that you alone can give.  Amen.

On Saturday, August 26, the United Methodist Men will be hosting their 2nd Breakfast Gathering.  After a hearty 7:30 a.m. breakfast, a brief meeting and devotions, we will be leaving the church to go out into the community to “make a difference.”  We will be working on re-organizing the furniture barn for Love INC.  This is a good opportunity for men who do not normally take paring in UMM activities to be part of something bigger than just “our church.”  Come, join us on the 26th!

The Christian Education Committee is looking for enthusiastic person willing to teach children’s Sunday School this fall.  Please contact Andrea Hillard or Pastor Ostema (775-5362), if interested.

The School Supply Pantry is now opened.  Supplies still needed are Backpacks (especially larger ones); you may leave your donations in the box in the narthex.  Call Barb Tatarchuk if you can help staff the Pantry.  Thanks so much!

Special Offering for Hurricane Katrina Recovery requested by the Council of Bishops will be received on August 27, the Sunday closest to the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s first strike to the US coast.  Katrina is not over.  We mourn with our brothers and sisters their great losses while we embrace this opportunity for United Methodists to show commitment to our faith and to one another. Together we can restore mission and ministry while moving into a strong future.  Please open your hearts and your wallets to the Katrina Church Recovery Appeal-#818-001.  Your donations will help to:

_          Restore hurricane-damaged United Methodist facilities

_          Pay salaries for clergy while their congregations cannot do so or until pastors can be reappointed or relocated to another church

_          Establish new congregations or consolidate existing ones in storm-ravaged areas

_          Renew church-based community ministries such as day-care centers and feeding programs

_          Provide worship necessities—Bibles, hymnals, robes and so forth—to churches in need.

            For more information, visit www.umc.org/churchrecovery.

When you have an opportunity, please welcome Debbie to this new position.

A new season of singing will begin for our Chancel Choir under the new leadership of Ann Hunt as Director and Suzanne Johnson as Accompanist, Wednesday, August 30 at 7:30 p.m..  You are invited to come share your musical talents in the Music Ministry of our congregation as we seek to praise God through song and lead musically in worship.  There are no auditions; the only requirement is a willingness to serve Christ and the Church through music.  We have a place and a robe waiting for you.                                                                                        _
