THE GATHERING TO WORSHIP
PRELUDE
BRINGING IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST
WELCOME AND PARISH NOTES
*CALL TO WORSHIP
One: We come here today not because we are clever
but because God welcomes those who are
slow to learn.
All: We come here not because we are wise,
but because God loves us in spite of our folly.
One: We come knowing that the greatest people will be found
among those
who humbly serve others like Jesus did, and
that the brightest ideas and the deepest truth will come from those who see themselves as little children in Christ’s
school.
All: O Lord, open up our mind and our hearts and enable our
lives to declare your praise.

UNISON PRAYER
Gracious God, revealed to us as we
welcome children in the name of Jesus, grant us childlike openness and honesty
to explore your word. Teach us as Jesus
taught the disciples that we may not so much aspire to greatness as to
faithfulness, counting service in Christ’s name a joyous privilege. Amen.

Join the Team in 2007!
You church needs your commitment.
Committee work is an important way we carry out the ministry of Christ. Below
are ways you can serve.
Church Administrative Council
The Church Council provides for
planning and carrying out a program of nurture, outreach and witness in our
church. The Council is also responsible for the administrative and
organizational life of the church. Currently
the Council meets on the second Tuesday of the month.
NEEDS: We are seeking several
at-large members who will commit to the monthly meetings. If you are interested in helping our church
carry out current plans and envision new ones, this is a good opportunity for
you.
Finance Committee
This group is responsible for
raising, managing, and distributing the financial resources of the church.
NEEDS: Three at-large committee
members to serve in three-year terms. If
you are interested in helping our church’s stewardship of finances, this is a
ministry for you. Currently meeting on the second Monday of
the month.
Board of Trustees
The Trustees are responsible for
the inventory, inspection and maintenance of all the church property. Also for
the receiving and administering all bequests and trusts made to the church.
You don’t have to be a “handyman”
to join the trustees, just a genuine interest in seeing our church’s property be its best.
NEEDS: Four persons to serve in
three-year terms. Officers are elected in January. Currently meets on the third
Tuesday of the month.
Parsonage Committee
This committee functions as an arm of the Trustees and cares for the maintenance and improvement of the church parsonage. NEEDS: Full
Staff Parish Relations Committee
The SPRC is made up of church
members who work with the pastor and staff in making effective ministry in the
church. The SPRC develops job
descriptions, hires staff, recommends salaries and confers with and evaluates
staff. It also counsels persons who feel
called by God into ordained ministry. This SPRC is the congregation’s liaison
to the pastor/staff. Both the pastor’s
ministry and the needs of the congregation are evaluated by this group for the
Annual Church Conference. NEEDS: Three
persons to serve in three-year terms.
Currently meets on the first Wednesday of the month.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee works to
provide ministries and opportunities that nurture congregational life. This
might include: organizing fellowship meals or meeting the needs of homebound
members through our tape and prayer ministry, or organizing a pictorial
directory. It also seeks to encourage
members to faithful participation in the life of the church. If you feel called
to help support the body of Christ, this committee can be an outlet for that
calling. NEEDS: Two to three persons to
serve in three-year terms. Meets on the second Tuesday of the
month.
Christian Education Committee
The Christian Education Committee
works to further the spiritual growth of the congregation by selecting and
coordinating teachers, resources and programs that meet the educational needs
of our children, youth and adults.
NEEDS: Two to three people to serve
in three-year terms. If you desire to see our church grow
through Christian Education this is a good place to serve. Currently meets on
the first Monday of the month.
Evangelism Committee
Evangelism means “sharing the good
news.” This committee
plans and implements programs that share God’s love through Christian hospitality.
Their work includes the “Bread Ministry” for first time guests. If you desire to help
our church be invitational, this would be a good match for you.
NEEDS: Two to three persons to
serve in two and three-year terms. Currently meeting on the first Tuesday of the month.
Worship and Music Committee
The Worship and Music Committee
serves to help
the congregation in its worship life. It coordinates worship supports
ministries, cares for practical issues, envisions and carries out enhancements
to worship, and helps to implement special programs and worship times.
NEEDS: Three persons to serve in
two and three-year terms. Currently
meets on the third Thursday of the month.
Missions Committee
Our Missions Committee helps our
congregation organize and carry out it’s financial
giving to missions, locally, nationally, and world wide. This committee
receives and studies information on the needs of others and helps us
respond.
NEEDS: Two to three persons to serve
three-year terms. Currently meets on the first Tuesday of the month.
Committee on Lay Leadership
This group seeks to match and equip
potential leaders for ministry in and through the church. If you are interested in helping connect
people in ministry positions, this is a role for you.
NEEDS: Three persons to serve in
three-year terms. Typically meets 4-5
times a year.
Memorials Committee
This committee is responsible for
receiving and administering memorial gifts given to the church in order to
provide fitting and lasting remembrances for loved ones and friends.
NEEDS: Full
Church and Society Committee
This committee cares for various
social justice & outreach ministries of the church including: Community Food Pantry contributions, Love
Inc. budget, and the annual CROP Walk.
NEEDS: Three persons willing to
serve in three-year terms. If you have a heart for social justice and the
connection between church and society, this is the place to put your desire
into action. Currently meeting on the first Monday of the
month.
