UNISON PRAYER

Christ of love and friendship,

welcome us here.

Help us to shed the worries of this day

and the distractions of our lives.

Center us on the truth of your love.

Open our heats and minds

to focus on your holy Word.

Strengthen us in this time of worship,

that we may leave

with the courage and the confidence

to be your people

Help us find the energy of Martha

and the focus of Mary,

that we may be disciples

who both know and live

your law of love.  Amen.

The United Methodist Men are planning a night for all baseball lovers to enjoy at the “old” ball park in Traverse City Saturday, August 4 with a 7:05 p.m. start.  This will be a good time to gather family and friends for this special event.  See Don Rennie, Ron Truax or Dave Fuller for reservations and all the details.

A Mid-Summer Update: This has been an unusual year in the life of our congregation. Some very good things have been happening.  We have 27 children and youth attending Church Camp this summer - up from 14 in 2006.  Also, we have had a pastoral change and with that change some unexpected and unbudgeted expenses including first-class postage for the letters which announced the pastoral changes, the Farewell Brunch for the Ostema Family, parsonage refreshing (painting, minor repairs, carpet cleaning), painting the Pastor’s Study and some new items for the office.  Hence, we are about $9000 behind in expenses verses income.  Your extra effort in giving over the next few weeks would be deeply appreciated so that we can begin the fall program season in the black. Thanks ever so much for your faithfulness & your help!!

Robert Reincke, grandson of Nina Katschalin (100 year old member of our church) and author of “Death of a Past Life” will be speaking at the Cadillac Library on Wednesday, July 18 at 7:00 p.m. regarding this book.  All are invited to attend.

V.B.S. Lift Off! Soaring to New Heights with GodNeeds:  volunteers (July 23-July 26.);  canning jar rings for crafts; old parachute or anything related to the theme of hot air balloons that we can incorporate into the decorating scheme.  Contact Clara Handy or Tonja Hinkston if you are interested in helping out or have items to donate.

Susannah Wesley Circle will meet at Bob Evans for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 19th.   Please call Jean Stump for reservations.  We also plan to work out our “Christmas in July” gifts if that is possible.  Our August meeting will be a visit to Waive McDonald’s home in Frankfort.

Naomi Circle will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the park by the Shay locomotive for a picnic supper Thursday, July 19.  Bring your own sack lunch; dessert will be provided.  After supper we will enjoy the jazz concert in the park.  In case of rain we will meet at the Church.
