Litany for Memorial Day Sunday

Response: Help us to remember; help us to be peacemakers.

In times of war ... parents lose children,

children lose parents,

loved ones - men and women are imprisoned

or die and do not return home.                                                 Response

In times of war even the most everyday people

grow bitter and become discouraged.

We plug our ears and ignore stories of injustice

and judge people unfairly.

We mistrust our neighbors and are suspicious

of those who look different from us.                                        Response

In times of war people lose their homes

and become refugees.

They do not know where to turn;

they become hopeless and are ignored.                                   Response

In times of war men and women

become soldiers because their country called them to fight for freedom and democracy and bring peace to this world.

They come to be seen only as targets, not as somebody’s

son or daughter or lover or friend.                                           Response

In times of war fear rules our lives

and we are anxious about everything.

Terror can force us to turn inward

to focus on ourselves

we see other people as threats

and unworthy of love, respect and dignity.                               Response

In times of war we stop living like God’s people.

We forget how to trust

how to laugh

how to love

how to hope.                                                                            Response

Love INC is busy.  During this past week temporary shelter was located for a family whose home was condemned, a ride to a doctor’s appointment was given, a Dad’s vehicle was repaired so he could take his son to weekly appointments in grand Rapids for treatments on his inoperable tumor.  These are just a few of the needs which were met.  Your prayers for our work are always appreciated.

Next Sunday is Pentecost - when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the Church.  Plan to wear something RED to worship - a shirt, scarf, tie, blouse, top, sweater.
