WELCOME AND PARISH NOTES

      *CALL TO CELEBRATION

One:    The word of God comes into our lives in many ways.

Many:   God’s word comes to us, calling us to action and

            to new life.

One:    God’s word calls us now, here in our worship.

Many:   God’s calling word invites us to service and ministry,

            to praise and thanksgiving.

All:       We worship the living God and offer our praises

to the eternal One - Jesus Christ.

AN INVITATION:  Each year in January the Administrative Council has invited the congregation to a Vision and Planning Time.  This Tuesday, January 30, at 7:00 p.m., you are invited to a Vision and Planning Time as we continue to focus on the essential goals for effective ministry. All Committee and Work Areas members will want to attend or make certain your representatives are present. Come, bring ideas & share your commitment to moving our church closer to Christ’s ideal for us.

For the next several weeks, the Thursday Prayer Group will view a series of videos based on the Lord’s Prayer.  Please join us from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. to watch and discuss the video and for a time of brief prayer afterwards.

On Thursday, February 1, there will be a very important meeting of the Wesley Fellowship.  A Potluck Supper will be at 6:00 p.m.  Bring a dish to share and your own table service.  Don and Marie Rennie will have a program which will be a Biblical tour of Greece, the Greek Islands and Israel. There will also be discussion and survey of what is important to our group and what we can do to improve interest in it.  This involves the future of Wesley Fellowship.  We encourage those interested to attend.

Our collection of canned goods, food stuff and paper products for February 4 will go to O.A.S.I.S. Family Resource Center.  Last year, O.A.S.I.S. provided over 4,237 bed rights & over 12,711 meals to women & children.  Some of them were homeless; many were seeking a safe harbor from a domestic violence or sexual assault situation in their own home.  Our on-going support of this shelter is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

An Usher and Greeter Training will be held on Sunday, February 11 and February 18 at 10:00 a.m..  All who are interested in learning how to usher/greet and those who desire a “refresher” course are invited to come.  Individuals and families of all ages are encouraged to become part of this vital part of our worship ministry.  Questions, see Dee Brinks or Bill George.

The 2007 Grand Traverse District Conference is on Saturday, February 10 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at our church. The theme for the day is “Fill My Cup Lord” in recognition of the need for all of us as servant leaders to have out spiritual reservoirs renewed as we serve Christ. The Rev. Benton Heisler, Lansing District Superintendent, will be the guest speaker.  There will be opportunity in the worship service for personal reflection and intercessory prayer.  Our hope is that we will come away from this event refreshed.  Following the worship service, there will be the recognition of our laity and the District business.  No reservations are necessary, as we are having a shorter format this year.  The coffee pot will be on; come and be refreshed.
