UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, the excitement and joy of the day surrounds us. How long we have prepared for this hour! Forgive us when we forget that it is not our own doing that brings us here but only your love and grace. Your love has surrounded us from our birth even when we have not seen it. Your love has been present in your word and in the words and acts of others. For this we give you thanks. Teach us to walk gently in your path of love, seeking justice, making peace, cherishing the earth and one another. Enliven our imaginations and embolden us with your love, that we may live in the brightness of your future. In joy we pray, Amen.

WORDS OF PROMISE

God is merciful and gracious, full of forgiveness, abounding in love and over-flowing with blessing. Receive the gift of forgiveness; live this day with new hope and strength to love.

SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

Great Thanksgiving for Ascension Sunday

The Invitation

Lord God, we come to share in the richness of your table.

For us you were born,

for us you healed,

preached, taught

and showed the way to heaven;

for us you were present on the cross

because your presence was unwanted,

you were present in the grave to dust the death from death.

and present now in heaven to be everywhere on earth.

Lord, Jesus Christ

present with us now,

for all that you have done

and all that you have promised,

what have we to offer?

Our hands are empty,

our hearts are sometimes full of wrong things.

But with you is mercy

and the power to change us.

So as we do in this place

what you did in an upstairs room,

send down your Holy Spirit

on us

and on these gifts of bread and wine

that they may become for us your body,

healing, of giving

and making us whole;

and that we may become,

for you, your body,

loving and caring in the world

until your kingdom comes.

Among friends, gathered round a table,

Jesus took bread, broke it and said,

this is my body,

it is broken for you

And later, he took the cup of wine and said,

This is the new relationship with God,

made possible because of my death,

Take this – all of you – to remember me.”

Give us humble spirits and open and receptive hearts as we eat this bread and as we drink this wine. Help us see beyond our own needs and purposes to become a part of your purpose, to be faithful disciples. Amen.

As Jesus taught the disciples of old, we now pray

Our Father . . .

Look,

the Body of Christ is broken

for the life of the World.

Her is Christ coming to us in bread and in wine.

The gifts of God for the people of God.

Sharing the Bread and the Cup

Holy Communion will be served by intinction. You will receive

a piece of bread which can be dipped into the cup and received. Please come by the center aisle and return by the side aisle.

PRAYER OF THANKS FOR CHRIST’S PRESENCE (in unison)

Holy God, we give you thanks that we have been fed and renewed by Christ’s life in us and we go now to share that life with others. Send us forth equipped with the power of your Spirit to spread the message of your love and mercy to all whom we meet. Amen.

Attention All Gardeners! It’s time to sign up to tend the Peace Garden. We will be starting the week of June 2 and go thru the middle of September. Please see Mary Buehler or give her a call at 775-6734. For those of you unfamiliar with what is involved, we take a week at a time and one is responsible for weeding and deadheading that week. It is a wonderful way to donate your time.

You are invited to share in the joy of Roy Farmer’s graduation at an Open House on Saturday, June 7 beginning at 3:30 p.m at his home located at 2130 East 48½ Road - take M-55 west to S. 29 Mile Road, turn left, go down to 48½ Road and turn left again.

Our Loose Plate Offering today will be used to help buy nets for the protection of children from malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. One million children die of malaria each year. These lifesaving nets are only $10 each; let’s see if we can send 50 nets.

Today is Graduation Sunday. We are honoring our graduating seniors at a breakfast at 9:30 a.m. and during the 11:00 a.m. worship service and the Coffee Hour following.

The Equal Exchange Coffee (decaf and regular) & Tea sale will be held TODAY after both services.

Our old dishwasher is broken beyond repair and we are getting a new one. We are raising funds to pay for it and have gotten a good amount so far. For now we are using paper and plastic and it is costing us to provide them for our meals served here. If you would like to contribute to our new dishwasher, please mark the envelope with "dishwasher" so that it will get to the fund. Thank you.

Over time our church has accumulated many various items that have been left behind by our members and visitors. We need to “reunite” these unclaimed items with their owners. Therefore, on Sunday, June 8 and Sunday, June 15, there will be a table set up in the Fellowship Hall with these items displayed. Please take a moment or two to peruse what is on the table to see if there might be anything belonging to you. Whatever remains after June 15 will be donated to Goodwill. Thank you for your help in this matter.
