UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Lord of love and mercy, we come to you this day, in this season of summer. This should be a time of relaxation and restoration, but our spirits still carry the burdens of our busy days. Forgive us, Lord, when we have carried our burdens and have not sought your healing, restoring love. Grant us your healing love. Strengthen us; give us peace. We offer our cares and our prayers to you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE
Come to the Lord, all of you. There is healing and rest in the Lord. You are given love and peace by God for all of your days. Amen.

SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

Invitation to the Table

Communion Prayer • The Lord’s Prayer #895

Breaking Bread and Pouring Wine

A Great Thanksgiving for Holy Communion

At the first moment of time, you drew from the deep wells of gentleness and goodness, Compassionate Creator.
You wandered the fields, planting the seeds which blossomed into rainbows of beauty;
you walked in evening's coolness, scattering the stars and moons into the deep blue-black skies.
All that you made was given to us that we might eat, drink, and dance with you forever and ever.
But we did not understand all the blessing you offered, choosing to sit in sin's marketplace.
You offered us rest from our wandering ways, whispering to our souls through the prophets' heartaches.
When we could not, or would not, turn back to you, you sent Jesus to rescue us from ourselves.

Graced with your glory, he humbled himself to come to us, to lead us back to you.
Yoked with your heart, Jesus came to bear our burdens, so we might find rest in your hope and healing.
Fed by your love, he came to eat and drink with all the outsiders, so we might dance forever in your kingdom of love.

Embraced by your gracious will, he handed himself over to death, carrying the heavy burden of our sins, so the joy of resurrection might be revealed to us.

As we remember his life, his death, his rising, we also remember the meal tradition of Jesus.

So in that tradition, we take this bread and this wine mindful of Christ at work in our lives, in the ordinary, in the everyday, and in our desire to love as generously as Jesus loved.

Bread and Wine
(Bread is broken)

We break this bread in celebration of the great truth that on this tiny planet, hurtling through cold, empty space, death is made the servant of life, and out of death life is forever resurrected.

(Wine poured out)
This cup with its fruit of the vine, is a celebration that things are not always as they seem:
that out of faithfulness and steadfastness, out of suffering and sorrow, may come unsought blessings.

Bread . . . the very stuff of life. Broken.
Wine . . . fruit of the vine. Cup full.

Sharing of the bread and the cup

Prayer of Thanks After Communion
God of love, God of compassion, may the celebration of the wonder
and the mystery of your Presence, strengthen and enable us to be your faithful witnesses in the world. Amen.

Holy Communion will be served by intinction. You will receive

a piece of bread which can be dipped into the cup and received. Please come by the center aisle and return by the side aisle.

PRAYER OF THANKS FOR CHRIST’S PRESENCE (in unison)

God of love, God of compassion, may the celebration of the wonder
and the mystery of your Presence, strengthen and enable us to be your faithful witnesses in the world. Amen.
